Writing Insanity

Raise your hand if you've heard of NaNoWriMo. Sounds a bit like Mork-speak from that thirty-year-old TV show. Actually, it's a kickstart for novel writers. NaNoWriMo is an abbreviation for National Novel Writers Month. Each November writers are challenged to devote thirty days to writing 50,000 words. Not 50,000 polished words, just 50,000 however-you-can-crank-'em-out words. And, silly me, I signed up.

Why did I do this? My To Do list (if I had one, rather than the various pieces of papers and notebooks that hold my Ought Tos and Need Tos) is staggeringly long, encompassing projects from homemaking to walking plans to church-related responsibilities to new business schemes to (yes!) getting ready for grandbabies due during the holiday season. Why am I heaping another project onto my plate? No rational reason, really, except that I want to write!

Those who know me from way back when know that about me. Old friends who haven't seen me in awhile will ask, "So did you ever write that novel?" Gulp. No. So I'm looking for motivation and NaNoWriMo may be just the way. Check it out if you're a wannabe (or already practising even) novelist. And wish me luck!

  2. Sad to say, Jenny, I did not. :( But I did get a lot more written my novel that I would not have otherwise. And I am now trying to institute a daily writing regime, so that I will be ready for NaNoWriMo 2011!
